Come on in and
Meet our Crew...

Me and my daughters Kayli and Alaina.

I have worked here for over six years now. If you asked me to pick what is my favorite section to work in I wouldn't be able to answer. I had planned on finishing school and becoming a counselor for children in school or a hospital situation. I was asked by my sister (who worked here at the time) if I would be interested in doing the website for the shelter. I started just updating what was already here but adding my own little touches. Before I knew it I was working on it full time and had found a couple other websites that allow shelters to post their animals for free. It wasn't long until I felt that I would love to work closer with the animals. I have worked in each area with all ages of cats and dogs. I feel this is exactly where I am supposed to be. This February I started helping Alice with the "New Leash on Life" program. I will be helping to train inmates on training the dogs and then placing them in forever homes.

Though Alice made this job look a bit easier than it is I am learning more each day. I love coming into work every morning. I will do my part to help our county and shelter grow in animal education and humane treatment of all animals equally. I hope to serve you well. Charlene Calhoun

~ Shelter Supervisor ~

Ruth has taken over my job as Shelter Supervisor. She takes tons of phone calls each day. Ruth is here to help with intakes and adoptions and can answer any questions you may have. She has also adopted four of our adoptable dogs and puppies and thinks there is nothing in the world better than they are. That is her "Abby" in the photo. They also call her Snuffy.

This is Sabrina McClellan. We hired Sabrina to work with the cats and kittens. She takes her job very seriously. You can ask her anything about any of them and she knows the answer. Sabrina makes it in to work even when she is feeling bad because she knows the animals depend on her.

Puppy Caregiver

This is Brittany Umphlett. Brittany has been trained to work with all areas of the shelter. She is very gentle and sweet and that is just what these babies like! Brittany has also proven that she can be just as strong as the big dogs and doesn't mind cleaning up their messes!

Canine Caregiver!

This is Jose!  He has brought a smile to work with him every day since he came to work here. He is very soft spoken to our dogs. Jose has a great way of keeping a calmness within his area. All the dogs love to see him come in.

Animal Caregiver~!

Jesse Calhoun has started coming in to work on weekends with the dog room and also does all of our repairs. He always falls in love with the hurt or less likely to be adopted animals.

This is Hattie. Hattie works part-time in with our cats and kittens
and some days in the puppy area. She has the best smile and such a
willingness to do anything to help out.

Debbie Cunningham started out working with our cats and puppies. She has found her place in this world and it is working with the dogs! Debbie makes a difference with them daily. She shows great compassion for each of the dogs and even has a couple of favorites.

Alaina Oliver (my daughter) spent her whole summer volunteering at our shelter this year. Everyone feels like she is one of the crew. Alaina loves to work in the puppy section but also hangs out with the cats and kittens when Sabrina is running errands. She also loves to walk our big dogs for some playtime. Alaina often offers to bathe the dogs and puppies before they leave during their adoptions.
