Thank you so much for helping us find our new loving home.

Good Morning Charlene:

Aspen is going really well, we are having so much fun!  I am attaching a picture.  I would appreciate email contact for her sponsors since I seem to have lost it, so that I can thank them for all they have done and their compassion.

Happy New Year! Judith & Aspen

Both kittens are doing great and are dealing well with the transition to my home and with the dog.  Here's a picture of all three of them together. Vivian

Just wanted to let y’all know that Odie the dog is doing well. We took him to our vet and he got antibiotics for his respiratory issue and that has about cleared up. He is a great dog…and we thank you for taking care of him until we took him. Have a lovely holiday

Here is a picture of Lydia (Darlin when she was with you guys).
Such a lover! and she adores our daughter so much. :)
She sleeps with us in bed every night!

Sissy and her new doggy friend on their way home!

Mallie is doing great. The day after we picked Mallie up she came down with a fever. After taking her to the vet we found out she had kennek cough and a bacterial infection. Finally after antibiotics she is felling better. She and my Australian Shepard became immediate best friends. She is very playful-WILD. My boys are really enjoying her. I think my husband and I are secretly enjoying her more. she was supposed to sleep with my nine year old, however she has been in mom and dads bed since day one. She LOVES the bed and sleeps all night. She sleeps laying across my aussie. She is a great fit for our family. I have many pictures and will send them soon. Thanks so much for a wonderful dog. Hi Charlene & Crew, It's been quite a while since our last update, so we thought it was time to get you guys some new pictures of Major Kane (Aka Willy/ Titan/ Ace)." Major Kane" has been a wonderful addition to our lives. He has made himself right at home & knows his place in the family. He is now about 125 lbs and we think he's done growing.  Major Kane became a big brother in August of 2009 when our daughter Gracelyn was born.  He is very gentle with her and undoubtedly will become a wonderful companion to her as well. Major is a very smart dog and has continued his education at our home.  In addition to what the new leash on life program taught him he now knows several other verbal and hand commands.
He knows what get on the couch means, we can tell him to "go night- night" and he goes into the bedroom and lays on his bed.  We have also taught him to take a bow, and "take a rest" (this is combined with the "down" command where he actually lays his head on the ground when you tell him to "take a rest"). He's gotten very good at balancing treats on his nose and waiting for the command to snatch them (although he normally just tilts his head sideways and lets them slide to the floor). One of his favorite games is
Hide and Seek the treat. We hide them - and he finds them every time. Major is also learning to "Hop" where he jumps into the air. We are still working on "heel" and he knows what we mean but stays half his body length in front of us while we are walking.  In addition to his many wonderful qualities, Major is also an excellent digger! He has re-landscaped the back yard several times!  We haven't been able to take him as many places as we had hoped because he pee's on every metal pole and houseplant he comes into contact with (hint hint guys - don't teach the dogs to pee on the flag poles or the bushes). Despite that, he is still very friendly with other animals
and every person he has ever met.

Hi!
Just a little update about Charity! (Adopted September 7, 2009)
Her new name is Ivy because of her beautiful green eyes.
She has been such a wonderful addition to our family and we love her so much! She feels right at home with us, too. Look how she has grown! Thanks so much for the wonderful work you do! The Swayne-Green Family

Mallie is WONDERFUL! She hates cold weather and LOVES soft fluffy beds. Here are some pictures. Thanks again. Tonya Gray and boys

Hi, Chester (zorro) is an awesome dog. He has worked his way into our home and we love him dearly... He was incredibly easy to train. I'm attaching some pics. Thank you, Ron

Hey there!
Its been a little over a year since we've gotten Nanook and she is still a wonderful dog. She gets along well with everyone she meets humans and animals included. Just thought that we would send you an update and some pictures to let you know how she was doing. Its very hard to get pictures of her because she never stops moving....except when she is sleeping of course.. I have attached some pictures of her in the snow that we had back in December. We love Nanook and thank you again for helping us find such an awesome dog! Thank You~ The Sides Family

Hey my name is Laura Smith and I volunteered there a while ago and I adopted Zack the grey cat. Well I wanted to thank you for letting me adopted him he was a great joy to have. He lived a full happy life and I loved him every bit he was my best friend in the world and the man in my life. This Christmas Break when I got home my parents told me that zack hadnt ate in a long time and stayed hidden in the house they took him to the vet and they said it was old age the vet said he thought he was at least 9 yrs old and that they had to keep him comfotable and give him love. well a couple days before I got home my mom was getting my brother who is handi-cap in the house in a storm and that night they went to check on him and they couldnt find him. They looked and looked but never found him. They think he went outside to go to god. They told me when I got home. It was heartbreaking. I have pics of him at home happy for you but I thought I would email you and thank you for allowing me that time with him. Sincerely, Laura Smith

Hello, I saw the update on Ivy (Charity) and I thought it would be good to update on one of her siblings.  We adopted Cade, who we renamed Gobo, on September 7, 2009.  He has been a wonderful puppy.  He is very intelligent and learns extremely quickly.  He loves meeting new people and new dogs.  He is very friendly and a joy to be around.  Well when he's not getting into crazy puppy mischief.  I am also attaching some pics of him, including one from the very first day we got him so you can see how big he has gotten.  Thank you for giving us the opportunity to adopt Gobo, he has been a blessing.

Just wanted to let you know "alvin" is doing well.  we have named him Sam in honor of Danny's mother's dog Samson.  Sam has gotten used to his doghouse (we have it in the basement).  He sleeps in there and seems to feel secure.  I had a blanket I wrapped around him in the vehicle while we took him home.  We put that in the house, and he's just fine.  He comes out of the  house, tail wagging to meet us when we come check on him.  He's eating well, and uses the bathroom when we take him out.  He fetched a toy for me a few times the first night, but now he just wants to stay and climb up in my lap.  won't be long before he's too big for that!   We are convinced he's a very smart dog, and of course we think he's the cutest thing around. The neighborhood dog doesn't agree with us.  He came in the basement with my husband and when Sam came to meet him, he turned around to go out so fast he ran into the storm door.  Danny said he thought he'd break the glass he tried to get out so hard!  Maybe with time, they'll become friends.  Brownie's just very jealous and doesn't want to share his people. Hope all of the other puppies get adopted soon!! Thanks, Danny and Donna Jones

Sorry it took so long, took a while to get them
on the computer. C.J. Hodges

Dear Avery County Humane Society,
I am Katherine Dillard. My family adopted Audrey Ann in January of 2008. Since then we have failed to keep you updated on how she is.  I hope you will accept our apologies! We truly are sorry!  When we adopted "Audrey" Ann

we had no idea whatsoever that we were going to be blessed with such a wonderful and loving dog!!!  I can truly say that she has touched our hearts and changed our lives!! : ) "Audrey"  is doing great!! She is as playful as a Bearded Collie can get!!

Her and I both played in the snow a little bit yesterday.... then came back in to warm up and grab a little snack!!  She and I  are getting ready to have our tug of war championship game tomorrow haha!!

She also loves too play hide and seek in our living room believe it or not!!! She is the smartest dog I have ever seen!!!! She's been trying to dribble one of her big toy balls it is truly hilarious to watch!! We have counted, she can dribble it 8 times in a row!!!

She loves getting her tummy rubbed and taking little naps with me! You can be sure she is getting a lot of attention!!! My Mom home schools me, my brother and my sister so the first thing we do after school is play with her!! We love her to death!!
I just want to thank you all for what you do... without you guys We wouldn't have our Audrey!!!!  Thank you again!
 Love,  Katherine Dillard

Good Morning, I had promised some pictures and was waiting on the perfect ones. Tivo has got to be one of the hugest success stories ever to come out of the Avery County Humane Society.  He is smart, a lover boy who loves being cuddled, loves people and is a working man’s dog.  He LOVES going to work with his Daddy Duggan.  Alleycatphoto.net took these pictures of him in the snowcat grooming the snowtube lanes at Hawksnest.  How would his Daddy ever complete the job without him?  And, before snowtubing season began, there was equipment to work on, ziplines to ride, wood to be cut.  It is all hard work and sometimes you just have to take a little nap.  The bucket of the bobcat is good because Daddy won’t go anywhere without him knowing it.  We named him TIVO (formerly Hunter) because the little TIVO character fit his personality to a tee.  We could not have got a better companion if we had paid $$$$$ for him.  He is perfect.  Thank you for being there to give them a second chance.

Almost 2 years ago we adopted Thor formerly know as"Robbie" soon there after we found ourselves in a situation of having to save Izzy from our neighbor. Since then they have been best friends and are inseparable. They love going to the dog park and chasing each other around. Thor loves to go out on the fenced in porch and chase the birds away. I attached a few pictures to show you how much he has grown and changed markings since we got him. There is even a picture of him cuddling with a rabbit he stole from his sissy.

Hey Everyone,

We adopted Toby The catahoula Leopard mixed.Just wanted to let you all know Hes doing really good. He has gotten a lot bigger. Toby is almost 25 pounds now. Toby and family

Greetings Everyone,

Thanks so much for your note and the photo on Carter’s adoption day.  We’re pleased to give you a report on his progress so far:

First, he’s been renamed Buster.  In most ways, he has adapted very rapidly to his new home and to us.  He has a nice new crate that he immediately began using.  The only “challenge” we’ve experienced were his very loud and long protests at night – which stopped completely when we relented and placed his crate in a corner of our bedroom.

Buster is learning very quickly to do all his business outside – no accidents for a couple of days now.  He lost his “skittishness” pretty quickly after some quality lap time last Friday – and he now bounds around the house as though he’s always lived here.  However, he was quite skittish and barked very loudly when we had 6 house guests in for dinner last night.  However, he calmed down completely and was loving on everyone within about 15 minutes.

Buster had his first vet visit today (All Pets Animal Hospital) – full physical + 3 shots (rabies, 3rd distemper, lepto) + plus 2 kinds of meds for worms & parasites.  He would found to be in excellent health, though he did have some hook worms.

We’re attaching some photos that we’ve taken of Buster at/in his new home.  Please make sure that Brittany sees them.  We are very happy with the pup and want to thank you for the excellent job you did at shelter.

Cheers to all, Paul & Marilyn Phibbs

currently fostering five other dogs that we hope to find families
for.  My Mom, who, again, never really wanted a dog, has joined the
fight for a no-kill shelter in Caldwell County.  She has written
letters to the Editor of the newspaper, volunteers at the local Pet
Partners Adopt-A-Thon, and has opened her heart and her home to other dogs that are not as lucky as me.

Hmmm, that's kind of funny.  "Lucky as me..."  A year and a half ago, I was ready to give up, and now I consider myself "lucky".  It's
amazing what can happen when humans decide to share their lives and their love with a dog (or cat) who desperately needs it.  Wonderful things can happen when humans get together for a common good and create fantastic shelters like yours, where a dog has a chance for hope.  Because there is hope after all.  I'm living proof. Love, Bailey (formerly "Ginger") Thomson
The Luckiest Dog on Earth

Hey. This is Melinda and Chris Brewer. We adopted Miley (Tiki) in April of 2009. We wanted to send you an update on how she was. Miley is a very happy and full of energy. She is the best dog in the world. She loves to ride in the car and meet new people. She has grown a little bigger than we thought she would but she is still our baby and she knows it. We Have lots of other dogs for her to play with. But we still cant let her outside to run around, she doesn't want to come back to us. We treat her as if she were our little girl because well she is. she has her own toys and everything. except for a bed cause she sleeps with her mommy and daddy. She even has her own clothes. Well here is a picture of her at Christmas when she thought every gift under our tree was hers. she also opened them when we were not home.

Ariel is a great dog. She and Eddie ( our chihuahua ) are having a little trouble deciding who is boss but I am sure they will work it out. Eddie has AlWAYS been in charge and I am surprised that Ariel seems to want to rule the roost. Perhaps Eddie is just so old he has lost some of his power. It's a little sad. Overall though we absolutely love her. Thank You, Beth, Dave, Lia and Kevin Trebilcock

Shane is doing great!  We have just fallen in love with him and he seems to be adjusting just fine to his new home.  The training he received at the prison is great - although he likes to be a little stubborn at times.  Thanks for all the work each of you do to take care of and find homes for the animals!!!!

Charlene, Hello! Just wanted to give you an update on Kimba Aka Kissie. She never made it to our web site as a foster dog, since my husband and Gabe my 6 year old Lab/mix became attached to her. Attached above are some pictures of Kimba and Gabe. She has found a playmate to rough house with along with a basket full of toys to share. Kimba is a joy to have and has decided that she likes her bed at night to sleep on. I can not say enough about her, it's like she was already apart of our family for years. Thank you all! Betty DeGore

Marcy had been in our shelter over a year. This is her home sweet home entry with her friend Hank. He had been with us since 8 wks old~! They look so happy.

Hi, Milo is doing great. He loves his new home and is settling in very well. We bought him some toys and he absolutely LOVES to play with them! Thanks for giving us the privilege of adopting him. We love him already and cannot wait to make more memories with him!!!

Thank you for sending the picture of the day we adopted Enzo (Sullivan).  We love him entirely and he is doing really well in his new home.  We couldn't be happier.

Thank you.... You all do a wonderful job.
