Snowey Tales

Snowy

I should start off by introducing myself. My name is Snowey. I am the office cat for the Avery Humane Society. Or so they call me. In reality I am what holds my crew together. I am there when they come early in the morning, and there when they leave in the afternoon. Oh, don't feel sorry for me..I have the life. I am sure you have heard "it's a dogs life", well dogs don't have it as good as I do. I am fed some kind of good soft stuff in the morning and then again before they go. (where do they go anyway?) Then I get my crunchy food all day.

I get to sit high on the desk and meet people when they walk in, and get all the loving and petting I want. People won't bother me because the ladies all tell them that I bite. It's true, I do, but usually when I just want to hear someone hollar. I always get a huge kick out of people in shorts. I can get a better grip on their ankles! Oh well, all's fair in love and war. Besides, someone had my fingernails taken and that is the only way I know how to defend myself.

I bet you are wondering how I came to live here. Well, I was brought in to find a "forever home" just like all my friends here. The crew fell in love with my animated personality. Not to mention good looks and charm. Anyway, they take very good care of me and I take care of them by keeping them on their toes. Every now and then when they are not looking I can get a great big sip of nice warm stuff they call cappuccino or I can pull over their cups and get a good lick of that burpy stuff! I am not sure why but that seems to excite them a huge bunch because they all shout my name and start picking up their papers. I even help Charlene type sometimes. She must like it because she starts counting to three. I know when she gets all the way to three I get a little ride right to the cat room.

Anyway, they were having problems finding a person they call "manager" and I decided that I will take that job. This will be my little notebook so you can see just how much I help around here. Are dogs really a man's best friend? I THINK NOT!!

Snowy and Tuna

Well, This little lady is named Tuna. I have decided that she isn't all that bad. In fact, I think she's kinda purty. Thursday I decided to let her out of the commoners room to jot around my office. I think she was impressed with how I handle the office staff. Maybe I'll keep her for a while.

Last month Charlene said we had 64 adoptions and reclaims. That is a record for our shelter. This month we have already had 15.

Snowy KissI have been signing up new volunteers like crazy and a lady named "Kelly" has been going to something called functions to show off our humane society. The girls all told me it is time for change. Well, I will decide if I like it or not later. Too much for me to do today.

Well, it is almost Christmas time and we have had a couple of people asking what we would like as gifts. Miss Charlene said we will be happy for anything you feel in your hearts to give. I being more business minded think we should ask for things we need. More along the lines of treats and toys. What kitty wouldn't want to wake up to a nice bag of salmon treats? Anyway, we can always use litter, bleach, and I guess dog and puppy toys too. YUCK!

Just so we can be clear. I do not and have never given permission for someone to scalp me!! The ladies see that I am being a little obsessive about my appearance and off I go to the beauty shop. Do I have no rights?

December 23rd, 10

We have been pretty busy here getting the animals into good homes for Christmas. Yesterday Terry from Impeccable Pooch sent in a couple of boxes of goodies she had been collecting for our shelter for Christmas. Nice stuff too. I decided one of the baskets was sent in just for me so I have a new bunker in the office to rule from.

We also had a little human guy named Micah from Charlotte NC bring in some money he had been saving up since his birthday just for our shelter. His grandparents also brought in food, toys, blankies, bleach and cleaning stuff. Now if I can get these girls cleaning I will have it spotless in no  time at all. As you probably know I have my work cut out for me!

Enough babbling, I wanted to wish all of my friends out there a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

March 7th 2011,

Well, Spring is just around the corner and the girls here are getting excited. They can't wait to let the dogs and puppies go outside to play all day here. Truthfully I can't either. I don't think my little ears can take much more. Snowey hiding.jpgAll winter long they bark and complain about having to be in their kennels. I don't see what the problem is. Ms. Church and her daughter come at least once a week and walk each and every one of the things. Ms. Schaller comes out for what she calls "spa day" and spends more than enough time in my office brushing them and "talking" with them. I feel sorry for her because I think she believes they can understand our human talk. HA! As if! Anyway, you don't hear me complaining about all the work I have to do. It isn't easy being the head of this place.

Ms. Charlene said we have hired a new director. Her name is Laurie and she is supposed to be very smart and nice. I haven't been able to talk with her yet so I will make up my own mind when I do. But..if she loves animals she can't be all that bad.

Make sure to come by and visit us soon. We are hoping to be able to move into our new home in November of this year. If you have any ideas on how to raise the money send me an email. I will get my crew right on it!

Snowey and Bob.jpg Did I mention that security is part of my job here? This guy followed one of our volunteers in on Tuesday. How was I supposed to know it was her husband Bob?
